My son joined Nightingale Primary School in Reception class in September 2015. It had been many years since I’d had any involvement with a school, but I was so quickly impressed with the passion, care and support provided by the Nightingale team that I wanted to try and do something to help. I therefore became a Parent Governor in early 2015 and towards the end of 2015 moved on to become the Chair of Governors.
For me it has been, and still is, a really steep learning curve. There is so much that goes on within the school on a daily basis which most of us parents are blissfully unaware of .
Myself and the team of Governors want to do all we can to ensure our children are safe and in an environment where they can learn and develop, whilst enjoying themselves. Our role is to be a critical friend of the school. That is, to offer support but at the same time challenge how the school is run.
If you would like to know more or have anything you would like to speak to us about then please contact the office team who will pass your details on to us.
David Katulwende – Co-opted Governor
I have been a Governor at Nightingale Primary School since September 2011. I am a qualified accountant and work for one of the world's second biggest mobile phone company. I have over 15 years’ experience across various finance roles in external audit, internal audits, accounting and controlling.
I do bring my business and accounting skills to governorship to maintain and strengthen financial controlling and reporting at the school. I am currently the Vice Chair for the school governors resources sub-committee. In the committee, we review and approve the budget for the school and review the spend against the budget. We do also look at the health and safety agenda among other things.
Currently, I am the governor in charge of reviewing the teaching and learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at school. I discharge these responsibilities by visiting the EYFS classes and speaking to the phase leaders. In my free time I do like reading, listening to music, watching football and working out in the gym. Please feel free to contact me on EYFS and the school resources agenda.
Anne Dee Co-opted Governor
I believe very strongly in a child's right to quality education in a safe and trustworthy environment which will enable them to develop their personal talent and equip them for success. I have worked in the public services sector in a variety of roles and departments including education. I understand that there are a range of pressures on schools in terms of managing scarce resources and providing the best outcomes for every child. I hope to be able to use my skills to provide positive support to Nightingale Primary School.
