Information for those in receipt of Free School Meals

Coronavirus & Free School Meals

From Monday 20th April 2020, families who are entitled to Pupil Premium Free School Meals will have a choice of three options.

Option 1 – Daily lunchbox

This will need to be collected from the school kitchen on a daily basis. The daily lunch box typically consists of:

  • Choice of Sandwich – Ham, cheese, egg or tuna or slice of cold pizza on a Wednesday only
  • Fruit or vegetable sticks
  • Biscuit or shortbread
  • Carton of fruit juice

Applications must be made daily.

Deadline for applications is 9.45 daily (orders placed after this time will be processed the following day)

Collection between 11.45am and 1pm daily.

Option 2 - Weekly Lunchbox

The lunchbox will contain enough produce for the week and will be based on the number of free school meal children that are attending Nightingale Primary School.  The lunchbox must be collected weekly on a Wednesday.

A typical package (depending on weekly deliveries) may contain:

  • Loaf of Bread / wraps
  • Ham slices
  • Cheese selection
  • Tuna (1 small tin per week)
  • Salad – tomatoes / cucumber / 1/4 lettuce
  • Rice pots
  • Yoghurts
  • Fruit pots
  • Fresh fruit
  • Orange or apple juice (1 per day)
  • Raw carrots

Applications must be made weekly

Deadline for applications is 9.45am on Wednesday (orders placed after this time will be processed the following week)

Collection or delivery between 11.45am and 1pm on a Wednesday.

Option 3 - FSM Voucher Scheme

Parents can apply for a weekly shopping voucher worth £15 per child to spend at supermarkets while schools are closed due to coronavirus.  You need to apply only ONCE for the recurring voucher.  Applications close at 3pm daily and you should receive your voucher the next working day.  Applications received after 3pm will be processed the next working day.  Once your application has been processed you will receive a voucher on the same day of each week until further notice.

Edenred, who provide the voucher service, have been inundated with applications and are experiencing some technical teething problems which has created a backlog.  Please be patient while your application is being processed. They have also advised us that vouchers can take up to four working days to process.

If you wish to contact Edenred directly, please call their parent helpline 0333 400 5932 or email

Families are free to choose either option 1, 2 or 3, however once you have made your choice you cannot switch or overlap options.  e.g. you cannot request a weekly lunch box and the £15 voucher.  Also, if you have applied for the weekly voucher and your child(ren) is attending school, you must provide them with a packed lunch from home.
