British Values

In Year 2 we learn about British Values by celebrating different faiths, religions and nationalities of people. We have learned about people in British History who have impacted our country. We have young governors who take the role to help the Year 2 children and take part in weekly meetings to discuss various issues and projects around the school. We have also discussed the golden rules and laws from right to wrong. We have encouraged students to take responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative and build confidence in themselves and others.

Welcome to Year 2!

Autumn Term 2018

So far we have had very busy term. We have had some exciting events and more to come! All of which are going to support the children in their learning. We have been very impressed with how well the children have settled into year 2. It has been an absolutely pleasure and privilege to get to know all of the children and hear about their summer holidays.

Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school every day which is filled only with water. Children can place their bottle in first thing in the morning in their class water tray.

Please can you make sure that your children do not use the outside equipment before or after school.

Please make sure your child has a P.E. kit in school that is clearly labelled and ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled, including coats and jumpers. Please can you check your child’s plimsolls/trainers as we have quite a few that no longer seem to fit!

ENGLISH

We are revising our phonics daily. Please help your child practice them at home too! Each week your child will have their spellings to practice. Can they put them into sentences? We have enjoyed reading a range of books as a class as well as reading in a group and individual reading! We are learning new punctuation to apply to our writing. Look out for commas, exclamation marks, question marks and speech marks when you are reading at home. We are also predicting what might happen before we read, using the front cover and blurb to help us with ideas.

This term we will be learning the features of non-fiction writing and producing our own information text about our class bird. Our topic is The Great Fire of London and we are writing instructions to make bread. We will also be writing a diary entry and a description and applying new grammar skills we have learned.

MATHEMATICS

We are learning all about place value, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication and solving a range of problems using these skills in different contexts.

ART

We will be learning how to use collage to create a fire picture.

ICT

In ICT we will be learning about E-safety, using internet search engines and navigating websites as well as playing times table rock stars to help us learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

HOMEWORK

Please practise reading at home and weekly spellings.

There will also be a range of other homework over the term.

Any questions please always feel welcome in year 2.

Please come to speak to a member of the year 2 team.
