Special Educational Needs and Disability Information

At Nightingale, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all our pupils. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all children are able to participate fully in the life of the school. At Nightingale, we recognise that children make progress at different rates and that each child’s individual starting point may be different so their progress may not always follow a steady linear pattern.

 

We strongly believe:

  • All children including children with SEND needs should be offered full access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, appropriate curriculum, school trips and extra- curricular activities.

  • All children should have access to High Quality Inclusive Teaching.

  • All children should have their needs met.

  • Views of pupils and parents should be sought and taken into account when planning and evaluating provision.

Parents have a vital role to play in supporting their child’s education.

 

We acknowledge that the SEN and Disability Code of Practice (2014) recognises that special educational provision is in addition to and different from the normal differentiation found within the classroom. However, we also know that high quality, carefully differentiated and inclusive teaching is the most effective means of closing the gap between children with SEND needs and their peers.
