Year 6 arrived safely at the Hampshire mountain centre in Brecon Beacons yesterday. After a tour of the building, the children went to their rooms to unpack and settle in before dinner.
The children were amazed by their view yesterday and in the evening took part of one of two activities. Half the children went on a local walk into the mountains where they learned more about the history of Brecon Beacons and experienced the mountains under the stars. The other group took part in photo orienteering around the building.
A stunning morning today! The sun is now shining as the children head off to their activities: caving, canoeing or mountain walking. After a good sleep, the children are excited to get going! More pics soon!
The children had a fantastic day on their activities! The canoeing group worked brilliantly as a team and took part in some games where luckily no one fell in (however quite a few people ended up in the reeds!)
Another two groups went off exploring the caves. They were kitted out in suits, helmets and head torches and the cavers were really excited to take part in lots of the challenges, particularly the toilet! They were absolutely fascinated with the caves and the formation of them.
The mountain walk was a brilliant experience for the children and they were amazed by the view at the top. They felt exceptionally proud of their achievement (although a bit tired after the steep climb!)
The children enjoyed another evening walk and photo orienteering.
The children had a great sleep and some rooms were even woken this morning!
Another busy day with each group doing a different activity: mountain walking, canoeing and caving.
After the activities, the children have been really responsible and helped with the clearing and cleaning of equipment.
The evening was spent playing games where children had to focus on their teamwork skills.
The children completed their last activity today. Group 3 climbed up Corn Du and Pen Y Fan (the highest peak in the south of the UK) before having a refreshing paddle in the stream. Yet another group thoroughly enjoyed their caving experience on the last day as well!
The children are all packed and fast asleep ready for their journey back tomorrow. Tonight they finished off their week by enjoying ice cream sundaes and a film.
